Project description

The project in detail.

A compact neighbourhood

The working brief explores twelve homes on an assumed 0.40-hectare site: four two-bedroom and eight three-bedroom houses. Short terraces enclose a shared pedestrian space, with individual entrances and private gardens. These quantities are initial design assumptions to be tested through plans, access studies and a real site appraisal.

Brickwork and a clear roof rhythm

The visual direction uses front-facing gables, warm brick and dark metal pitched roofs. Deep window reveals, recessed entrances and low garden walls give each home a recognisable threshold. Planting, seating and cycle storage are considered as part of the neighbourhood rather than as leftover spaces.

Design priorities

The next design stage would test daylight, privacy, accessible routes and the relationship between private gardens and shared space. Vehicle access, parking, refuse collection and drainage would need to be resolved together. The illustration explores architectural character; it does not establish the final layout or a verified site capacity.
