A traditionally detailed garden-room extension proposal for a period brick villa. Hawthorn Villa explores tall painted windows, brick piers and a low slate hipped roof, creating a comfortable sitting room overlooking a landscaped terrace.

The project in detail.
A garden room with traditional proportions
The design borrows the vertical rhythm of the villa's windows and reinterprets it through a series of tall glazed openings separated by brick piers. A stone-coloured plinth and cornice give the addition a clear base and roof edge, while the hipped slate roof keeps the overall form restrained.
An additional place to sit and gather
The room is conceived as a comfortable family sitting space with views across the garden. Central French doors lead onto a broad terrace, and a shallow projecting bay marks the opening. Planting and low hedges frame the outdoor space without enclosing the view.
Balancing light and comfort
Further design would test the glazing arrangement against orientation, shading, ventilation and year-round comfort. The roof connection, relationship to existing upper windows and internal access would be developed alongside the structure, floor levels and garden threshold.
